A Childhood Dream Realised

This weekend my childhood dream was realised.

I have been a huge fan of Nigel Kennedy since I was about 9 years old. I wanted to play just like him... unfortunately I gave up the violin at 12...I kick myself now that I didnt keep it up.

My anniversary pressie from the Wonderful Dutchman was tickets to see him play The Four Seasons at the Brighton Dome...we were due to go in September, but it got put back until last weekend due to his recording commitments.

He honestly was sensational.... spine tingling playing.

He reworked the Four Seasons which was a delight...fresh, modern, and such fun. Added vocals which added an eerie quality.

He also treated us to his new works he has written; The Four Elements. In true Nigel Kennedy style it mixes classical, pop, blues & jazz. Which has me and the Wonderful One smiling.. as he put it 'only he can turn a classical concert into a rock concert!!

It was a truly beautiful experience, mixed with Nigel's fantastic sense of humor, foot banging and hand bumping the audience!! It was rounded up by him playing Danny boy which was so moving...he has a strong place in my heart and my heart will always sing when he plays.

So Thank You Nigel for being as amazing as my dreams &

Thank you Wonderful One for making this Magpie's dreams come true yet again...

One Happy New Year Bride

Getting a Thank you email is one of the highlights of my job. I love to know my Brides, or as in this case the Groom, has had an amazing day.

Getting married on New Years Eve must be so exciting, and when Chad bought Aubrey for his Bride to be, he was pretty excited by the whole thing! But hey with this stunning bride, who can blame him!

Their smiles say everything to me.

What a beautifully happy couple.

Chad ordered his Brides bouquet through my Etsy shop. He lives in America, and received his bouquet in 7 days!

I have another bouquet which is being whisked off in a Brides hand luggage to New York, to get married in Central Park!! Wow, can you imagine how gorgeous that is going to be...I am waiting with baited breath for those photos!

America seems to be the hot spot for Weddings right now!

A quiet New Years eve in our house this year....

Candlelight flickered, giggles filled the air, silly photos taken, snuggling on the sofa, the Pip kicking.

In every way perfect.

This year is going to be a big one for us on a personal level...Or little Dragon baby will be born, and we are SO excited.

As the clock struck 12 we popped the champagne, and marveled at the stunning fireworks in London.

I just loved the silhouette of that skyline.

I hope you have lots of exciting time ahead of you this year...may the fireworks of your life be bright, hopeful, sparkling, and awe inspiring.

A Great Grandma's Love

My Fabulous Grandma knitted this amazing cardigan for Pip.

The workmanship in it is just divine.

To say I was touched by her gift is an understatement.

It is utterly beautiful... only wish Pip will always fit in it...however I know that wont happen!

84 years of experience, 13 Grandchildren & 4 Great Grandchildren {Pip being number 5!}...she says a knitting pattern is as good as a crossword to keep her mind challenged.

The Love shines through this little cardie.

It will always make me happy every time is see it...even in 30 years!

Here come the Girls

When we went to Holland, we often spend the days visiting family & seeing friends. It is always a busy time, this year especially as we hadn't had a chance to go over at all this year until Sinterklaas.

I find myself strangely missing my trips to see The Wonderful One when he lived in Holland. I miss strolling around Amsterdam, visiting museums, sitting in Cafes watching the world cycle past, & taking a million photos of the stunning Dutch canal houses.

One of the highlights of the airport is the tiny Rijksmuseum, We went last year, newly married and saw these beauties. This time we had a extra little Pip to show around!

As I walked toward the museum I looked up and saw these wonderful ladies...I was like a child at Christmas...the excitement as I walked up the stairs made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

I am a huge fan of portraits, and to be in a room filled with the most beautifully painted ladies...well, I was in heaven!

She was my favorite...a navel captains wife, his safe port. She was dripping in pearls, and had the most intricate dress on. I wanted to hold out my hand and touch the lace in between my fingers.

She has the most sparkling ring on her pinky finger...I could have stood in front of her all day... One day I will own my own beauty like her, I shall greet her every morning like an old friend.

Even the frames on these girls are a work of art...I could almost smell the roses in this one, hear her silk crinkling as she posed for her painting...

I can imagine her thinking...'will he paint a good likeness, will be make my nose smaller, my cheeks rosier?'

The details are breathtaking... I wish I had a fraction of their talent.

Pip also loved these girls...s/he was bouncing around merrily.

Maybe Pip will paint me my own beauty, who I will greet every day

Only time will tell.

Coming home for Christmas....

...Well Sinterklaas really!

We have just come back from a trip to Holland for Sinterklaas. It was a busy few days...

Tiny florist shops, with beautiful wintry wreaths and lovely front gardens, with stylistic Christmas arrangements.

Family celebrations, and a Dutch warehouse occupied a 4 year old boy for most of the evening...The Wonderful ones Mum makes a different one each year to hold the presents....last year it was a train!

This warehouse had a working gable, the presents could be lowered to the floor for the Zwarte Piets to load the boat full of presents.

Tim and his handmade Crown...feathers and all!

Boys will be boys

A soft, happy bear was much loved by little Chris...everyone got cuddles and smiles...I just didn't catch them on camera!!

Pip got her/his first Sinterklaas presents...a very spoilt baby indeed! Our bags were slightly overflowing on the return journey!

Talking of that lovely over active Pip....the bump is really showing now...24 weeks, it is going so quickly! The back flips and star jump are making our day...The wonderful ones face lights up whenever he feels them...it really is amazingly mind blowing what my body is capable of...I am one lucky girl!

The wonderful Dutchman's much missed giant beer...I know the way to my mans heart!

A happy afternoon spent watching the world go by in an amazing cafe...with amazing friends.

I blame the baby...a bag of heaven...

I however I miseds tucking into slightly seared tuna, herring, & rare steaks....and generally watching and asking whether I can eat this!!

The Wonderful one has promised me a fridge full of Pate, Soft Cheese, & Parma ham after our little Pip has arrived....now you know why I love him so!!

A beautiful few days off...now back into the madness that is Christmas in a flower shop.

The One...

Since living in Hungerford I have admired the stunning houses, beautiful cottages, and glorious country farms. One of our Martin & the Magpies customers has the most stunning home. While sitting in her kitchen going through a Christmas order I was left fantasizing about what it would be like to own a house like that. It is a rambling country house...Horses in the stables and divine grounds.

It is lived in, with coffee cups in the sink, newspapers left half read on the table, a cat sat on the dining room chair....dogs snoring away in their beds, and children who have eaten all the 'good' biscuits!

Then when I came back into Hungerford with country home daydreams in my head...I walked past my favorite house.... I do not know if anyone lives here...it looks empty and unloved.

I look at it and can see a family home, a sweeping staircase and a wide hallway are all I can see from the door when I sercretly peer in...!

The courtyard doors holds a secret....behind it is the church hall, they have tea and coffee mornings. The vintage residents walk the cobbles for a 50p cup of tea and a gossip!

I wonder if the church owns the house? I wonder if I could bear to paint those chippy blue doors?

I wonder if, one day, I will breath life into it?

The daydreams of a rambling country pad have left, a tatty town house has taken over....I could have a pack of hounds, a horde of babies, a big kitchen with an Aga, and the shop on my doorstep.

It is good to Dream. To Believe.

I am just like a small child when there are fireworks about...I love them so much.

I remember the joy of bonfire night, the hot dogs, the smell of fired onions and gunpowder in the air, gloved hands while writing your name with a sparkler, the heat of the bonfire, the amazement of the fireworks, the ground shaking booms, the whizzes, cries, Ohhh's & Ahh's.

Although I am growing a babe in my belly, have a ring on my finger, & a handsome man by my side, time flashes back....as I stand in that school field, I revert back to being 10..... the joy etched across my face.... Pip jiggling in my tummy.....Life is wonderous right now.

Vintage Magpie Courses 2012

This year I have discovered a love of teaching. Passing on my knowledge has been an incredibly positive part of this new journey I have been on.

As I'm sure you are all aware, we will be having a little bundle of joy in March. This is something which I have been waiting for all my life; to be a Mum. I cannot wait for the challenges that wait for me.

However, I also ADORE my creative life, and get a cold sweat when someone asks me whether I will give up work. Although my bespoke work might be reduced next year due to Pip, I want to be able to grow Vintage Magpie throughout this time, to create a fantastic business that will work around Pip, So I can fulfill my dreams of being a creative working Mum.

So this got me thinking whether to offer some lovely VM workshops...

I honestly do not know whether this something you; my gorgeous readers, would be interested in?

So this is me dipping my toe in the water...

...please feel free to let me know what you think!!

Firstly I would be looking to hold a 'DIY Bridal Course' where you will learn how to make a silk fabric Rose Bouquet. All the materials will be included, just bring along some of your treasured vintage items to work into the bouquet. This would be a Day course. The cost of this course would need to be confirmed, but around £200 with lunch & wine included.

This would be happening around May/June 2012. It would only be open for a small amount of people, So if you would be interested please either comment on this post or email me at;

The second course will be 'The Vintage Magpie Masterclass' an intensive 2 day course designed for the professional, who either would like to set up their own business or add a string to their bow and offer an extra service to their existing business.

It would give you a complete over view into the process of making an Heirloom bouquet...from the first crystal wired to binding off the bouquet.

A kit will be included, all you need to bring is some lovely Vintage Sparklers, a note pad & your happy face!

I stress the word INTENSIVE for this course! It will be a challenge but well worth it.

Again the cost will need to be confirmed, but around £850 Lunch & wine included on both days, Plus endless tea & coffee!!

Nearly Halfway

This is Pip...can you see the bump?

Pregnancy has taken me slightly by surprise, I never knew I would be this tired, but now the sickness has gone I feel 100% better and am enjoying having a little bump...its heavy...I blame the Wonderful Dutchman's heavy bone genes!!

On a positive note I am SO EXCITED about this baby...It makes me admire my Darling Ma so much more (if that is possible!). We are having our 20 week scan soon and we are not going to find out the sex of our Pip...we figure the surprise is far more fun!

I was looking through my blog today as I was wondering when I started writing it....what I discovered left me smiling...the 27th March 2008...which happens to be our due date next year!! Strange or what?

This pregnancy has been full of date co-incidents.

~Our first due date was 1st April ...the first day me and the Wonderful one met~

~We found out we were expecting a day after the Wonderful Ones Birthday~

~Our 12 week scan was the day after our first year wedding anniversary~

This little wriggling Pip was just meant to be!

When I opened up the email Michelle sent me and looked at her images I gasped....such gorgeous images...classic, timeless and that Smile!! The love is just blossoming from her smile.

She said this in her email;

"My guests were in awe over the bouquet! The photographer was able to capture some great pictures of it. And it went perfectly with my gown!! The wedding truly exceeded all of our expectations and the bouquet was the icing on the cake."

Michelle sent me a locket, with her Dads photo inside...this is the reason I create these bouquets; the links we have to the past....creating something beautiful for the future...An Heirloom to pass down, a nod to the past...the shimmer of the even greater future...together.

New Doors

Today I looked at what we were up to this time last year. A blog is great for this purpose!

I really couldn't believe that a year ago we were moving out of our divine flat in Brighton...onward to our new life in the countryside....was it really a year ago?

Time disappears in a flash.

Next week we will have been in Martin & the Magpie for a whole year. We have learnt a lot, worked so very hard, even argued, but in the end have made it a big success, and we are so very proud.

We have evolved over the year, working on our strengths as individuals, as well as a team.

Our courses have been a real joy, teaching others has been an amazing experience.

It has been fun, and I cant wait for the next year of fun!

Looking back at our life before, I miss certain things, but I feel our life is so right just now and we are in the right place. We are content, happy & relaxed.

Our beautiful Pip is growing nicely, the baby plans are all coming along well. I have exciting plans for Vintage Magpie in 2012, and Martin & the Magpie is looking forward to a fantastic Christmas...

I however will miss blue cheese, port, sloe gin and pate...but this bump keeps me smiling...next Christmas I will have all those things and a beautiful baby to share his/her first Christmas with!!

I now realise that we should cherish what we do have, respect the brilliance of our bodies...it's the only one we will ever have.

Stunning Silk Ruffles

This is one of the last bouquets of this crazy wedding season!

My gorgeous bride loved my Rosa Bouquet, but wanted it a bit 'rougher', less like real roses...Her wish was my command, and this is now she turned out.

Her Groom needed a matching buttonhole...the mix of white, ivory & Champagne silk...pearls and crystal.

A ruffle of the ivory silk, with a sparkling gem finished off this soft, beautiful bouquet.

I love the colour combination of this bouquet...it is subtle, but so effective. The tiny seed crystals, add a sparkling flourish, which I adore.

Now I can have a little rest, put my feet up and enjoy being pregnant...

Well until next Sunday when I am at the Vintage Wedding Fair at Chettle House Dorset... I'm really looking forward to it!

How Does Your Garden Grow?

Our's is growing like wild fire....

I know it is only a fraction of what some peoples gardens can grow...however this is our first garden, we are new to this! The Wonderful Dutchman has super green fingers and is enjoying every second he spends out there. I however have just loved to grow the veg! We have had Salad, herbs, spring onions, rocket...and soon the tomatoes, however I might be making green tomato chutney!!!

Wholly Unique

When someone hands you Eric Carle's 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' fabric, some colourful star buttons, a handmade hand stamped disc, vintage lace, and a vintage key....what would you make?

A Challenge is the first thing that I thought; next ....totally out of my comfort zone....then add in the fact this is for a super talented friend with bright pink hair, a Vaudeville themed wedding, a illustrator of children's books, who is marrying the most splendid metal sculptor in the whole of Britain....the nerves start to kick in.

This bouquet took more time and care than my own VM bouquet!! I was feeling the pressure! But the minute I had an idea in my head, I was on a roll.

I have to admit I went away from what Miss Nats wanted....she originally wanted it made from the fabric roses...but with a fabric as busy as this, you where struggling to see any detail of the vintage items that was going into it, which I thought was a shame.

So for the first time, I redirected the brides vision....sent the email with the photos and prayed that she understood what I had done and why.....I waited......

Her reply was this...

" Emma Bakker you wonderful wonderful lady!!!It is stunning! I am blown away!!!!Thank you thank you thank you!!!! I'm so excited! did i mention that I love you and you are wonderful!!?? its amazing....to be honest, i don't really know what my vision was, but i know i love it! "

So I think it is safe to say she likes it....and I can breath a sigh of relief!

Thank you Miss Nats for pushing my creativity, for being wholly unique and a wonderful friend.

I can enjoy the wedding next week with a little bit of pride to have been a part of this amazing couples day.

Gabbie's Bouquet has been one of my favorite this year...I love the gold tones and her jewellery she asked me to use. Also Gabbie was a dream to work with and I loved catching up on her plans for her big day.

With her stunning soft ruffled fishtailed dress, the bouquet with the feathers won the day....the softness it added to the look of the bouquet suited her dress just perfectly.

There is nothing better than a happy, glowing, blushing bride, to make this little Magpie's day!!

Is this our future?

I find myself unable to sleep....the news is just horrific. 3 night of 'riots' seeing children laughing at people smashing in businesses windows....throwing missiles at the police.

One reporter stopped and ask a girl of no more than 13 why she was looting alcohol from a shop, her response? "cos its funny and there is nuffing else to do" and walks away laughing......shocked is nothing near how I feel when I see the adults of the future showing a complete disregard to any morals, and a total lack of respect for people property and their hard earned businesses.

These are their communities, their people, businesses which serve them.....what is the point? what is the reason? When you see mindless people destroying beautiful parts of London, you can help but ask....what have wronged these people so much, to make this type of destruction justified?

Families in there homes being under attack..... police, firemen, hospital staff all trying to help, calm and assist the victims. Turkish and south Asian communities creating their own police line to protect their areas.....sorry did someone say it is 2011??

But then a part of me thinks; when people have no jobs, no respect, no future, do they see this as a way to speak out to get some people to pay attention?

When the government takes away their benefits which keep these people in food, because there is no work, and education is now coming at a huge cost....what do they have?

A cry for help, albeit a disgusting one, but we as a nation have to listen to our disillusioned youth....these are our children....they are a direct reflection on our situation, the past neglect which is now our future.

I believe FAMILY is the key, I believe that we need to start from an early age to love our kids, to show them the way of a respectful, moral human being....the world doesn't owe us anything....you have to give something in order to benefit in the future. If we all brought up our kids with simple rules and discipline. Having to work hard for luxuries or pocket money maybe they would start to understand the cost of life, and that nothing should be offered on a plate. That it is far more beautiful when you have worked hard for something.

Mr Cameron you need to stop talking and start listening, realise that your actions and policies affect your people....that people cant survive on nothing.....they need jobs, education and something to be proud of....get you arse back from Tuscany and do your job properly man. We all want to help, we all want to be safe and happy.

You have the power, it's time to use it in the right way.

Yesterday was the Wonderful Dutchman's Birthday.... We headed for the sea!!

I think we both miss the sea air of Brighton, and it was glorious to have our toes in the sand, and a strong sea breeze....

We headed to Studland, to Shell Bay to stare out at Old Harry and Durdle Door....this coast line of Dorset is breathtaking.....

It was hot....the Bob was happy he had just had his long hair cut off at the groomers!!

We enjoy this peaceful place so much...it holds happy memories, and we vowed that when we have kids we will take a holiday here every year.....toes in the sand, the smell of sun cream, gulls soaring, laughter heard all over the beach.....it is my happy place, and I think it is quickly becoming the Dutchman's too!

A Gentle Soul

My never ending task to get a good photo of Bob is ongoing. However I love this one above A LOT!

This year he is seven years old, it has gone in a flash. A dear friend of mine has just been told she has six weeks left with her darling doggy...it's so sad. These humble, happy creatures break your heart when they go, I have experienced it more than I care to remember, each time leaving a huge hole in our family.

Bob is not his real name, he is famous, therefore he has the need for a disguise....he was named after an old friendly horse in my favourite book. The horse that looked after his owner, he was a gentle soul....something I wished for my dog.

He sometimes manages it....sometimes he has small dog syndrome...he can be soooo grumpy...and he adores to bark....but we love him just the same.

.....Oh he loves a gravy bone too!!

For the last few days I have been wearing my winter boots...in June...this is bad, why are our summers so useless?

So as the autumnal feeling sets in...I was thinking of oranges, burnt reds, browns and all the yummy colour that will soon be with us...today is the longest day after all....

My Ma gave me these glorious feathers after a clear out at home. They are just stunning, the colours, the softness, the tiny smallest feathers you have ever seen, and the iridescence dark black plumes, which always remind me of oil spills, the rainbow of colours.

A pheasant has never looked so fantastic...can you see the autumn bride with a delicate bouquet of these feathers? For the boys?...well every man should have a feather in his cap...or buttonhole!

Darling Jude

I know you will recognise this bouquet if you have been following my blog for a while.

This is Darling Judes bouquet. It was made a few years ago, but it continues to bring me a huge amount of pride.

Jude has become a great champion of Vintage Magpie. She is always there to remind me why I do this job...why I create these beautiful works of art.

Her bouquet had pieces of her family history in it. Unfortunately due to ill health her Mum couldn't be there on her day, but her bouquet has her nurses medal in it and was of great comfort to Jude when she walked up the aisle....see what she said about it here.

I was recently featured on Urban Sugar's blog, and to my joy Jude had posted a comment....

this is what she said....

"I cannot praise the Magpie's work enough. For any bride thinking of getting a bouquet from Emma I can guarantee it will bring you memories, and an heirloom to last a lifetime. One of my main reasons for getting a Vintage Magpie Bouquet (aside from how fabulous they look) was the link it gave me to members of my family who couldn't be at my wedding- particularly my adored Mum. My Mum passed away a few weeks ago, and looking at my bouquet, which houses her most treasured and personal things, gives me comfort every day. You simply cannot put a price on that."

Once again Jude has amazed me. Even in what I can only imagine to be a heartbreaking time for her, she has taken the time to write such wonderful and thoughtful things about my work.

So Thank you Jude. Your soul is beautiful and I'm sure your Mum is looking down at you with a heart brimming over with pride at what an amazing woman she brought into this world.

Handmade Hungerford

Thursday night is the night for 'Handmade Hungerford'....will you be there??

After a lot of thinking I decided that I need to meet some lovely like minded people. Coming to a new area where you only have family to chat to I'm missing my happy friends being so close by. So when trying to find a class or group to join, I noticed that there is a lack of creative outlets in Hungerford and the surrounding cute villages, so a hatched a plan.

Empty shop in the evening....too many craft projects on the go....why not combine the two?

Handmade Hungerford is a chance to meet like minded happy chappies who love to craft, learn and create.

It is free, fun and I hope informative....

It is happening every other Thursday at Martin & the Magpie at 7pm. Starting on the 16th June.

Bring your project, some wine, gin, juice, and your happy face.

Miss Katie & Mr Noel

A month ago The Wonderful Dutchman and I were at Miss Katie's & Mr Noel's wedding. It was a glorious day of love, laughter, happiness and tipi's! It seems like 4 months ago & I cant believe I havent blogged her bouquet!

Miss Katie originally wanted an ivory bouquet, but once she had found her dress and told me about it we decided on a mixture of purples....3 different tones worked a treat!!

I tried different colours to bind the bouquet....it took a while to finally go bold with her handle...the plum worked so well, and a little change is always good.

Miss Katie married my best friend. I have known him since I was 12, shockingly that was 18 years ago. Noel is a wonderful friend, always positive, happy and possibly the most talkative person I know. He is so hardworking. He traded his talents in metal work for their wedding bands, making protective window frames for the jeweler who created their rings....stories like that are never far away with this adorable couple :)

I cannot express what pride I had seeing them get married. Being a little part of it was beautiful.

I wish this gorgeous little family all the luck, love, health, wealth and happiness this Magpie can give.

Here is to may more cute babies, a lifetime of holding hands, a showering of kisses every day, a million hugs and for the stars to shine so brightly over their marriage.

I love you guys!!

New but Old

We have finally got a chance to make our new house a home....we have added new items, changed a few things about, throw and charity shopped a lot to fit into her petite measurements!!

I still feel she is a bit cluttered but its a work in progress right?!!

This painting was a junk shop find...in the most horrid yellowing plastic frame, I walked past it twice, moved it into a few different lights and decided I loved it...with the Wonderful Dutchman giving his seal of approval we bought it for £15...an original oil painting...yellow plastic frame and all!!

A lovely new frame later and a freshly painted wall she looks as good as new.

Every time I walk past it, it captures my attention, I love how art can do that to you.

A Thank you email, a letter or a simple photo makes my day....they really put a huge smile of my face. They make me happy, they make me feel apart of your day!

I completely understand I and many other suppliers are tiny part of a brides day, but those tiny parts make a life long memory..... I think it is so important as a bride to recognise everybody who has made your day special.....

So I'm on my soap box now, it might be years of my Mum telling me to write thank you cards for every Birthday and Christmas. But I think it is so important.

It is not only your lovely guest who have bought you wonderful gifts...but the vicar, the florist, the caterers, the photographer, the ring designer, the person who designed your invites who all deserve a 'Thank you'.

The power is amazing, it is some times the only way someone knows they have done a good job, that it worked out well. It's important. Something that is fun to do.

We got simple Moo Postcards with a few different images of our day...one silly and fun...the other two sensible!! We hand wrote a sweet message and both signed it...it was a lovely finish to our wedding. My Mum was proud!!

With me, all I ask for is a Photo....one like this will put a smile on my face all weekend!! This is my best friend Noel...I have known him for forever....and his gorgeous bride Katie....who rocked her VM bouquet...my wedding gift to her...this was the first time I have made a bouquet for a friend...a wedding that I attended...it was a utter delight!!

Noel even looked good holding it....matching buttonhole and all!! It was an amazing day of fun & laughter. Tipi's & campfires. Live music & Love. It was adorable, just like this couple!

So, that pesky BT man took rather a long time to sort out our line...Its always the one thing I hate about moving...having to talk to BT...nightmare!! But everything is back to normal now, we can start to enjoy our new house...which we adore!!!

The Wonderful Dutchman checking out the garden {with Beer}...chatting about our plans for a veggie garden, herb garden and mass of sweetpea's...I think we might be slightly ahead of ourselves...but it is fun to give it a whirl...we have never had a garden which gets sunshine....the possibilities are endless!!

Last weekend we made a start...it was emotional as I discovered I had killed a gorgeous bumble bee nest...I was sad for some time...I love bees and watching 2 bees flying around trying to find there nest was upsetting. But there will be plenty of new happy smelling flowers for them later in the year.

Its felt good to be working the soil, planting seeds and watering...sore backs and all!

So all in all we are super happy in our new tiny home...we have found the smallest house in the high street...it reminds me of a Dutch canal house......no wonder I love it.

I have to say, I love this green.... obsessed might be a better word....I own many items in this shade....from my darling kettle, painted furniture, my sofa and even our wedding palette! So when it came to photographing this new bouquet for Amy....I just had to make my sofa the backdrop.....a match made in heaven!

This fabulous green is the colour of her Bridesmaids dresses....mix in soft ivory silk and a sprinkling of Vintage buttons, jewellery, crystal and plenty of sentimental family pieces and not to forget those showgirl feathers!!

I think I will always have a love affair with colour.....its dreamy...slightly medieval, and if i was to tell you my Bride has the most beautiful red hair?? Can you picture it? I cannot wait for those photo!!!

Hearts for Holland

This time last year The Wonderful Dutchman and I were in Holland...it was beautiful.....spring is the best time to see Holland in all its glory.

However this weekend we hear of a horrible event in Amsterdam...a shooting...in a shopping mall....on a Saturday. Horrific...My Wonderful Dutchman feels far from his home when something like this happens...in a place where you have friends, a place you know well....his homeland.

Although this world is getting smaller, one act can make you feel so far away....rushed phone calls, and Facebook messages confirmed everyone was safe...a sigh of relief.

But still the thoughts rattle in your head.....Why does a 24 year old man feel the need to harm others? What has happened in his short life?

It breaks my heart......just how are we bringing up our children?

Our heart goes out to all those affected...we are both sending all our love to friends and family in Holland

The Hidden Secrets

In the beautiful world of Vintage items, there is always something that surprises you....

...These feathers are no exception....I found them a couple of months ago, it is a rare find; vintage showgirl feathers, so I bought without looking very hard at them. Last night I started on a bouquet I have been looking forward to...my best friends, soon to be wife...I knew these feathers would be perfect...then I looked again at them....well I was amazed....

these are huge feathers....doubled up and sewn together. but as I took them apart I discovered that in order to make the feather longer they had knotted another feather to each strand...can you believe that...EVERY STRAND hand knotted....WOW....firstly who would have done this? A small child? A tiny handed lady? I cant imagine there is a machine that would be able to do this?

Nearer the top of the feathers the bottom strands were doubled up and one strand knotted on top of them....this really does blow my mind....I love fiddly jobs but this is crazy!! and just how long would it take to create one feather?

Nothing ceases to amaze me in this world of vintage....workmanship, attention to detail, beauty and tiny hands....I think I was born in the wrong era!!

It also reminds me why I love to use vintage items in my bouquets...the history and stories they create are priceless!

Our Wedding 17th September two thousand & Ten | Make Your Own Book

This Christmas The Wonderful Dutchman and me decided to give our families an album of our lovely wedding pictures. I had seen Blurb books before and thought I would see what they had to offer...I started playing about with their software...found it to be so easy and fun...and after 3 nights our album was finished.

We are so pleased with the finished result. It feels just as wonderful as albums we had seen through photographers. It looks so professional, and everyone was delighted with them. We ordered 4 books and everyone was perfect.

Yet again it is another DIY element to our wedding day that I thought you might like to see...I would recommend Blurb to anyone....affordable, fun and professional results.

You can use any photos and script, you can even make your own novel!! I simply love the idea, and i'm sure we will use them again and again for present ideas, and family memories.

The Wonderful Dutchman and Me adore the film 'Amelie', if we are after a cosy night in on a cold winters day, we snuggle up to this film.

So you can imagine my delight when i saw this engagement shoot by wildflowersphotos......SWOON

I think all of these are super cute and fun invitations....my personal favorite??? I love the circus invite...which isn't even a wedding specific invite...but it is just divine!

I also adore the DIY element of the Moo cards...J'Adore Moo cards, we did our Thank you card with them and they were just beautiful.

This took my breath away...this amazing natural light show....makes me want to run all the way to Norway just to stand in awe of this beauty.....Have you seen the TV programme (a small taster!) where Joanna Lumley go in search of this inspiring spectacle? she waited for the right weather, right location...she was cold....but it was worth it in the end...she saw what she had been dreaming of since she was a little child....she was overjoyed.... The rather lovely Tiffany Grant Riley and the super fab photographer Kirsten Mavric took my wonderful 'Gentlemen prefer Jane' heirloom bouquet out for the day.....

To be a sparkling star on a 1920's inspired photo shoot in London's Alexandra Palace.

Simple style and classic lines suited her so well......

Sweet Sixth

On Thursday it was out sweet six month anniversary....six months of change, stress, excitement, & hard work. But through it all we held hands, smiled, laughed, pulled silly faces and love each other.....I wont lie ...it had been a hard & tough first six months of marriage.... but we are stronger for it.....and as I got whisked away for dinner, we sat and chatted about what a whirl wind we have been living. We remembered all the perfect moments of our wedding day, about the many beautiful weddings we are going to attend this year, and about our future....only the happy memories matter in this game of life...

...Oh....and we pigged out!!

For Japan with Love

Tomorrow there is a blogger silence...no blogging allowed to support and help raise money for Japan.

I shall be taking part. I cannot even start to understand the utter helpless feeling these families are experiencing... my heart is breaking for them. Everyday I see more moving images.... now with the nuclear disaster, the freezing temperature and the snow .... I cant help but feel completely compelled to help in some way, shape or form.

Shelterbox is a Cornwall based organisation which...

"Provides emergency shelter and lifesaving supplies for families around the world who are affected by disasters at the time when they need it the most."

They are simply wonderful, they send out amazing boxes which include everything you could need in a situation like this....why don't you look inside the box .... then look inside you wallet and

give generously....

Remember Japan IS our problem....we are all living on the same Earth

We are all family, we are all connected to this beautiful world....Please help them even if its £2....every penny will help them.

Darcey is the most stunning colour...a dusky pink, soft and so feminine. Her flowers have crystal centers, gently sparkling away. I was so sad to hear that the bombshell, the knockout, and downright gorgeous lady that was Jane Russell has died.... she was just F A B O L O U S....so I have dedicated my newest bouquet to her..... here

Gentlemen prefer blondes is one of my all time favourite films. The styling, fashion, story and acting is just wonderful. Both her and Marilyn are captivating on screen. They are both fantasy dinner party guests of mine

This lady was sensational..... gorgeous, fun, and fierce!

An idol in the truest sense of the word.

The pool scene...a delight!!
